Everyone at MD Anderson, from the doctors to the valet workers, are amazingly pleasant. Appointments go according to schedule mostly; I never had to wait much past my scheduled appointment time. They understand that no one there is having their best day, and make things as easy as possible. My doctors were always quick to get back to me when I had questions or problems. Hands down the best medical facility I have ever had occasion to visit. If only my regular doctor's office ran so smoothly!

Every time my father-in-law goes here for his appointments ALL of the doctors are hours late. He ends up being at the hospital for 15+ hours on every SINGLE appointment day and sometimes over 24 hours. He is the last patient to leave even when his appointments are at 7AM. Consultations do not take hours. The staff of this center do not care about anyone else's time but their own. Most of this time is spent in the waiting area. Might as well not make appointments since they're never on time. When my FIL mentions side effects from the treatments the doctors tell him to go to the ER instead of explaining that chemo is a serious treatment and causes a multitude of symptoms that can potentially be different for every patient. Seems like they only want to run his bills up higher instead of caring for their patients.

I had the luxury of a nurse Practitioner Helen Monroe that was very rude and did not listen to the patient. Came in for a colonoscopy screening and talked more about the risks of the procedure than understanding my symptoms!. I have gone to various international hospitals and never been treated so insignificantly. There is no human touch to her approach. Unfortunately as part of the Shell program I have to use this service.

I’m appalled at some of the reviews that’s being wrote on here, usually people that write reviews are the ones that’s upset, I had to stop reading them, one place said it’s Ghetto, its actually more like a luxury hospital, you would have to see it yourself. . M.D. Anderson is Amazing, the #1 doctors from all over the world are here. I’m sorry that you’re loved one may not of made it but remember it’s cancer and the best chance they had is at MD Anderson. I’m 37 and I’m flying here from the other side of the country once a month for the last 7 months (all expenses paid because I’m in a clinical trial, paid by the drug maker). I was diagnosed with a rare cancer, like one out of 200 or so be diagnosed, it’s a tumor in my salivary gland on my jaw. I was told by other hospitals that I have no option but cut it out and the side of my face be paralyzed, I couldn’t imagine and felt I rather be dead. I’m in a clinical trial taking a pill twice a day and it’s basically gone, on a PET scan it’s not there and barely visible on a MRI, it’s possible it’ll be totally gone soon, if not they can do surgery without harming the nerves. The surgeon here is no shit the #1 head and neck surgeon in the world and he says there’s no need for surgery. Im forever grateful. If you’re told you have no chance by your doctor then I recommend you get a second opinion here. They can’t save everyone but it’s your best chance.

My spouse is getting treatment for a relatively rare cancer, requiring inpatient chemo and surgery. While it took us a minute to learn how to navigate the large campus and institutional structures and processes, the care at MDA has been mostly great, despite our difficult situation. Specifically, the techs, nurses, NPs/PAs, social workers, and docs in our main clinics and the sarcoma med-onc floor have been mostly wonderful. When we've encountered problems or bad attitudes, they've usually been in support/adjunct/admin units like financial clearance. Some (but not all) of those problems are rooted in the country and state's messed up insurance/sickcare system. Overall, we're grateful for this important public institution and hope it continues to improve access to excellent cancer care.

This is not the great hospital it once was. They are arrogant and lack respect for their patients. We will be going somewhere were we can set appointments on our schedule. We waited for 30 minutes past our appointment time before walking out. This was our second appointment with Dr. Anne Tsao who is routinely 2 hours behind schedule. I would encourage more to walk. Maybe it will bring MD Anderson’s hubris into check.

We spent seven years enduring not only my husband’s cancer diagnosis, but also the horrific lack of continuity and communication that is extremely prevalent at MD Anderson. And to add insult to injury, no one is held accountable for this ignorance. They all just talk about each other, you know as good cop, bad cop. Be very careful when approaching this facility for your cancer needs. Record every word spoken, because it will change minute to minute, with ZERO recollection from the source that spoke it. It’s a scary place, so don’t go in there alone, have a patient advocate with you, and a caregiver that will be your extra set of eyes and ears. There are many many stories like mine, and I promise you, protect yourself. They are a very poorly managed business with an incredibly broken system. Pay attention, because they aren’t.

My dad recently passed away while under the care of MD Anderson. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer a little over a year ago and had his bladder removed, which means he needed a urostomy bag. Even though that can seriously impact someone's quality of life, my dad was always in good spirits and didn't let it bother him. About a year later, a mass was discovered near his colon. The doctors and PA's at MD Anderson took a biopsy and said the results showed no cancerous cells. Turns out they didn't do the procedure correctly and only tested one side of the mass. When they took another biopsy, they discovered that it was indeed cancerous. But we lost a couple weeks in that process. If they had done their jobs correctly, they would've found it sooner. My dad sent multiple messages through myChart complaining of pain and asking to see the actual doctor, but was ignored and dismissed by the PA assigned to him over and over again, losing valuable time for treatment. It took over a month from the time the cancer was discovered to when he actually got an appointment to see someone, and it still wasn't the doctor. What kind of hospital would delay the treatment of cancer for that long!? Especially "the best cancer center in the world". The mass continued to cause pain and grow abnormally fast (from 4cm to 12cm in 1 week) for my dad for weeks and no one there seemed to care. He had 1 chemo treatment, which would've been delayed 3 weeks had it not been for my family demanding to have it moved up. Some side effects of that chemo caused him to be rushed to the ER, where they kept him overnight. They then said he needed an enema, which did nothing to help his situation because the mass was pinching his colon closed. In fact, it made everything worse because it caused serious distention in his stomach, which obviously caused even more pain, and they needed to perform an emergency colostomy to relieve the gas build up. This meant my dad now had a urostomy bag AND a colostomy bag! Pretty rare to have both. But even still, my dad remained in good spirits and even joked about it. The next morning, was when everything went to sh"t. They asked him to stand up and walk around the room, but within a minute, he collapsed. And he never got back up. My brother witnessed the whole thing. They emergency team on staff took there sweet ass time to get there, over 10 minutes!! And weren't able to revive him. Again, a hospital of this caliber should have more of a sense of urgency, but they didn't care. He died on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. I saw him laying there, lifeless. It was the worst day of my life. I'll never forget it. My dad was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was an engineer by trade, but also an artist, singer, writer, handyman, car enthusiast, movie buff, and just an amazing man that the world was lucky enough to experience. MD Anderson has ads on TV and radio touting themselves as having the most compassionate staff and great communication between departments...all bullshit*t. No one knows what the other dept is doing and they must all be immune to the struggles of their patients because they just don't care. At least not enough to save their lives. And on top of all that, they charge hundreds of thousands of dollars for sub-par treatment. They need to be held accountable for their lack of care and treatment for their patients. Something needs to be done to correct this flawed healthcare system. Not just at MD but all over the country. My family is trying to help correct this system. And if anyone else out there has had a similar story, I hope that you'll join us. https://patientsforchange.com/ Love you so much Dad. Miss you everyday ❤️❤️❤️
