The Portland Hospital in figures:

The Hospital belongs to the HCA Healthcare UK Network. It's the only London healthcare provider with highest rankings of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). CQC is an independent and non-department organization that monitors all healthcare services and their compliance with all medical standards.
The Hospital also has:
- ISO 9001/2008 Certificate - guarantees international standards appliance
- Center with A First Class Service recognition by the Department of Health in the UK.
The Children’s Department receives patients from newborn babies to 18 y.o. children. Over 300 children's doctors treat little patients with autism, cancer, cardiac, neurological and other diseases.
The Portland Hospital has specialized departments as Adult High Dependency Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Baby Unit, Transitional Care Unit and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. The last one is the largest private one in the UK.
The Portland Hospital has the first in the UK private center for children's neurorehabilitation.
The Maternity Department provides antenatal and postnatal care, early pregnancy service, pain relief care, physiotherapy and other therapies. The Hospital has 0 maternal deaths.
The Gynecological Department specialists provide surgical and non-surgical procedures for women's health.

Been trying to pay my bill, system confirmation, but didn’t charge my card. Took three weeks to respond to any email. Asked them to call at 1.30pm. They didn’t. I then call their payment office service, which is terrible. Three different cards (with money to cover) failed six times. They blamed me, called my bank, no process made. Called them back, continued to fail! Finally worked the seventh time. Mmm, your account system needs a overhaul! Your customer service needs action! Shame it doesn’t support the hospital service

This place is beyond a joke. Before my surgery I was told I had to pay up front to later be refunded by my insurer. I did as I was told. But still provided my insurance details on all my forms when it came it all my appointments. However I was logged as a 'self- pay'. For the last month I have been trying to sort this to get my money back. I finally had my insurer pay HCA and now they are saying they cant find the payment. That's despite me sending the invoice and remit. Now… they have my money and my insurers money. Clearly they have my money. They have the evidence of that in two documents and I have a further document proving they have been paid. All i keep getting is 'we will check this friday and see if it's hit the account'. Payment was sent 29/08/2019. I am a final year PhD student. I don't have much money. The money I did use was a loan. I think it's disgusting what you've done.

The healthcare is excellent, but sadly the administration behind it is woeful. Seven months after an insured treatment was conducted the hospital decided to contact us out of the blue, claiming 950 GBP outstanding on our account. Despite 3 months of trying, they were unable to provide a copy to either ourselves or our insurers, and once this was eventually done and were told by our insurers not to contact us whilst the invoice was being assessed, we received a letter threatening to pursue legal action.....all this at a time when our 18 year old son has been through a period of great stress. Absolutely shameful treatment that lets down a great healthcare team

The care I received was as expected, but they charged me twice on several occasions, then insisted that I pay. The admin aspect is shocking.

Just read the reviews . Seems customer care doesn’t exist. So just stay with our own NHS. They really do have an excellent bedside manner.

HCA I received treatment for AML at UCLH. The treatment was successful. Yesterday (February 2025) I had an endometrial ablation, again with Dr Amelia Davison. I had Nurse Kelly, the same lady who helped me with my two procedures in September. And this time, I had another lovely nurse, Aika, who popped in to check on me when Nurse Kelly wasn't around. They were very attentive with me as my blood pressure was low after surgery, and I appreciate the care before discharging me. This surgery gave me a feeling of period pain but no cramps, so I was able to eat a bigger meal, a burger, which was great as I'm anaemic. I'd like to thank the ever-so friendly Dr Mark Esler, the same anaesthetist I used for my September procedures. And also to the lovely nurse who humoured me as I was going into surgery with my rambling about my orange allergy, and tucked me in when I said I was feeling cold. I think her name was Zam, possibly. While I hope to not need to go in a third time, if I do, Dr Amelia and the Portland will be my preferred choice.

In September 2024, I had a hysteroscopy and myomectomy here with Dr Amelia Davison. I felt relaxed from day one and was treated exceptionally well by everyone who attended to me at the Portland. I was so relaxed and comfortable in my room that I took a nap before going to theatre. My two nurses (one wearing a uterus badge) were friendly and explained what I should expect before and after the procedure. The anesthetist was Dr Esler and came to see me before the procedure and also when I was in recovery, which I've never experienced before, but made me smile as I felt he genuinely cared for me as a patient. One of the nurses, a lovely American lady with the uterus badge whose name I've forgotten, reminded me that feeling pain is pain, and this was nice; not being gaslighted and having my pain dismissed. Dr Davison was attentive, explained the procedure to me and made me feel at ease, well-informed, and that I was safe in her hands. The bonus was that the food choices were excellent, and they cared enough to take my food allergy seriously and ensure it wasn't in my food. Exceptional service by wonderful people. Thank you all!

Beware - customer care is non existent, glossy brochure but nothing helpful such as pre-admission info which is paramount, at the Portland Hospital consultant was excellent & nursing staff great but aftercare is shocking money spinning out of hours doctor service at £350 an appointment. Recommend seeking alternatives to HCA Healthcare.

Their administration is appalling. By their 13 mail letters of 6 dates, from 8 February 2019, to today Friday, 9 August 2019, from HCA Healthcare UK, to us, they have incorrectly charged us for 2 appointments and for 4 membership services that we have not received.
