FUE — Follicular Unit Extraction

During the FUE, a doctor removes the hair follicles from the donor area (typically, it's the back of the head) to the bald zone. To achieve a natural result, when transplanting, the doctor focuses on the natural density and direction of hair growth.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. During the transplant, you can watch TV, read, eat, and drink.

The specialist shaves the hair on the donor area if required. He/she takes follicles with a thin scalpel and places them in a special solution to gather them in grafts afterward.

A hair transplant specialist will make thin channels in the hairless area and insert hair grafts into them.

DHI — Direct Hair Transplant

It's one of the most advanced hair transplant methods for now. DHI is very similar to FUE technique. Unlike FUE, hair follicles taken out the head are not placed in saline solution. Your specialist will implant them in the recipient zone. Experts consider that the survival rate of transplanted hair is better. The transplantation is made with Choi-pen similar to an automatic pen — a specialist presses a button and implants hair into the scalp.

In most cases, DHI doesn't require shaving before the procedure.

Notice that DHI is more meticulous work requiring specialized skills and additional time, so its cost is higher than the FUE one.

FUE and DHI transplants recovery and results

Your doctor bandages your head — this temporary band will be removed in 3 days. The doctor will instruct you how to wash your hair and give advice on skincare.

Be ready that in 3 weeks or so your transplanted hair will fall out. This process is natural, it shouldn't scare you. In 3 months, new hair will grow in their place. You can observe the final result in 6-12 months.
