- Obesity Center at St. Martinus-Krankenhaus is one of only two German centers which are accredited by the International Federation of Surgery and Obesity (IFSO).
- The latest achievement of the Clinic is the title of Top Mediziner 2016 in obesity surgery according to Focus Magazine. This is one of the most prestigious awards among German medical institutions.
- Besides, Obesity Center possesses the rank of Kompetenz-Zentrum fur Adipositachirurgie (Honored Center for Obesity Treatment)
St. Martinus-Krankenhaus is a multidisciplinary clinic which includes 3 specialized centers and 6 departments, namely, of Ophthalmology, Therapy, General and Visceral Surgery, Traumatology, Geriatrics, and Anesthesiology and Intensive Care.
All centers have passed the accreditation of influential medical associations.
Obesity Center
The Center is headed by Dr. Matthias Schlensak who has managed to involve in his team many experienced surgeons as well as other specialists like dietitians, personal coaches, and behavioral therapists. It means that the treatment here is based on the interdisciplinary approach which increases the therapy’s effectiveness.
The physicians of St. Martinus-Krankenhaus perform both traditional bariatric surgeries and innovative interventions.
Standard minimally invasive surgeries

Gastric sleeve resection |
The removal of the part of the stomach with high concentration of gastrin (“hunger hormone”). |

Gastric Bypasses |
During the operation only a small part of the stomach continues functioning. The surgeons use a bypass through the middle or back part of the intestine. |

Gastric balloon |
The balloon is reduced to the stomach size and placed inside it using endoscopic techniques. Such procedure promotes quicker saturation. |
|
Gastric band |
Laparoscopic placement of the ring on the upper third of the stomach, which helps to get rid of the feeling of hunger more quickly. |
Innovative minimally invasive surgeries
|
Gastroplication |
A specialized surgery which reduces the gastric lumen by suturing the stomach. The procedure has some contraindications. |
|
Endobarrier |
A non-invasive therapeutic method for the patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity, during which a thin liner is inserted into primary and middle sections of the small intestine. The liner prevents interaction of food with these sections and is removed after the therapy. |
|
OPTIFAST |
The program conducts monitoring of the patients with the most complex forms of obesity. It helps to choose different approaches which are divided into phases. |
After a long and thorough testing German Diabetes Association (DDG) has specified St. Martinus Krankenhaus Diabetes Center for high achievements in the treatment and care for diabetic patients.
In addition, the Clinic provides training for dietologists from the whole Germany.

Sehr freundliche Ärzte und fürsorgliche Schwestern. Auch das Reinigungspersonal war freundlich und gewissenhaft. Ich komme gerne aus MG um mich hier behandeln zu lassen.

Auch im Namen von meinem Vater, möchten wir uns für die fürsorgliche und sehr freundliche Betreuung, stationär und in der Tagesklinik, bedanken. Das gesamte Pflegepersonal und die Ärzte haben ihn wieder aufgebaut und er kommt gerne wieder. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

In diesem Krankenhaus habe ich das Licht der Welt erblickt !!! Dort wurden meine Mandeln entfernt !!! Das Personal war immer super !!! Ich hoffe sehr das das Krankenhaus noch lange bestehen wird !!!

Wurde hier operiert, bin sehr zufrieden, habe mich gut aufgehoben gefühlt, Ärzte und Schwestern sowie Pfleger super nett und kompetent. Kann ich nur empfehlen. Vielen Dank für alles.

Die sind da alle der Hammer, Ärzte, Pflegepersonal. So kompetent und ruhig. Nur zu empfehlen. Ich beziehe mich hier auf Station 4. Aber es war alles super.

Ich bin für die Klinik extra 200km angereist. Dr.Kirchmeyer ist wirklich super. auch sehr sehr freundlich und nahbar. Und das Wichtigste sehr kompetent. allerdings das Personal auf Station 4 🙈🙈🙈🙈.… Chaos ohne Ende. Und die Verpflegung ..ohne Worte
