Dr. Philipp Riss received the Sandoz Award for Thyroid Research in 2010 and the Venia Docendi Award in 2017.

Prof. Dr. Philipp Riss is an Austrian surgeon specializing in endocrine surgery, with a focus on diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. He studied medicine in Vienna, where he also completed his specialist training and habilitation in surgery. At the Medical University of Vienna and Vienna General Hospital (AKH), he serves as Associate Professor and senior surgeon in the Division of General Surgery. His expertise covers thyroidectomy for benign and malignant disease, minimally invasive parathyroid surgery, adrenalectomy, and operations for hereditary endocrine syndromes such as MEN. Prof. Riss is also engaged in clinical research on endocrine tumors and is widely recognized for his contributions to improving surgical techniques and patient outcomes in endocrine oncology.
