Dr. Sebastian F. Schoppmann is an expert in general and visceral surgery. He has focused on upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery since 2007. He leads the Gastroesophageal Tumor Unit (CCC-GET) at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Vienna. He is also an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna.

Dr. Schoppmann has published over 240 peer-reviewed articles. He serves as a consulting or associate editor for several leading surgical and oncology journals. He is the General Secretary of the Austrian Society of Surgical Oncology. He has also held important leadership roles in surgical oncology organizations. His work has helped advance upper-GI cancer surgery.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sebastian F. Schoppmann is an Austrian surgeon specializing in upper gastrointestinal, visceral, and oncological surgery. He studied medicine in Vienna, where he also completed his surgical training and habilitation. At the Medical University of Vienna and Vienna General Hospital (AKH), he serves as Professor of Surgery and Head of the Upper GI and Esophageal Surgery Program. His clinical expertise covers the treatment of esophageal and gastric cancers, reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, and esophageal motility disorders. He is recognized for advancing minimally invasive and robotic techniques, performing esophagectomies, gastrectomies, fundoplications, and complex oncological resections. Prof. Schoppmann is also an active researcher and educator, contributing to innovations in surgical oncology and gastrointestinal disease management.
