Thanks to the professor and his team, the department has been modernised by introducing modern surgical methods of treatment and especially improved methods of post-operative recovery. The Department of Surgery at the Solingen Clinic is now further expanding its focus on minimally invasive surgery in the direction of robotics. The clinic has allocated a huge budget for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment in order to offer patients a full range of surgical methods for the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the oesophagus, lungs, stomach, liver, pancreas and intestines according to current guidelines and using the most modern technical equipment.

Professor Schenker is an active researcher and lecturer. He lectures at medical universities and organises seminars and workshops for colleagues. He cooperates closely with the Cancer Centre, the Pancreatic Cancer Treatment Centre, the Intestinal Cancer Treatment Centre and the Interregional Trauma Centre.

Dr. Marc Ulrich Becher is an interventional cardiologist and heart failure specialist at Städtisches Klinikum Solingen. He is known for performing advanced procedures such as coronary angiography, radiofrequency ablation with 3D mapping, carotid angioplasty, and stenting.

Dr. Becher’s clinic carries out about 3,000 to 4,000 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures each year. DDr. Alexander Hermann, MPH, MBA, EDIC, is a Vienna-based physician specializing in internal medicine and intensive care. He graduated from the Medical University of Vienna in 2012. He later earned a Dr. scient. med. and completed MPH and MBA degrees.

Since 2018, he has served as a consultant at the intensive care unit of the Medical University of Vienna. In 2021, he completed his specialization in intensive care medicine. Dr. Laura Masalaite is a gastroenterologist and endoscopist at VUL Santaros Clinics and Kardiolita Clinics. She became Acting Head of the Organ Transplantation Coordination Centre in 2024. From 2007 to 2024, she served as Senior Specialist. She has been an Associate Professor at Vilnius University since 2024.

Dr. Vilius Kontenis is a gastroenterologist and endoscopist. He trained at Vilnius University and earned his MD in 2014. He completed his gastroenterology residency in 2018. Since then, he has worked at Mažeikiai Hospital as a gastroenterologist and endoscopist. He also practices at Kardiolita Clinics in Vilnius as a gastroenterologist.

His work includes a systematic review and meta-analysis on inflammatory bowel disease. He has studied liver fibrosis, comparing FibroScan with routine tests.
